The Pigeon Key Research center has been oriented such that it sits exactly on top of an existing shark tank on site, which has been integrated into the research center. The symmetrical building has concrete piers supporting the structure and the roof which allows for maximum northern light and minimum southern exposure. The double screen system acts as a breathing membrane for the building, letting in the natural air when suitable and closing it off when air conditioning is necessary. Complete building system design including HVAC, acoustics, lighting, solar array system has been performed. The program includes a gathering auditorium, multiple classrooms, meeting spaces, research labs and associated service spaces with a lounge on the top floor.
