The function of the room being designed is that of a meeting room which sits on the second floor of a Research Center. The idea for the lighting design was to have louvered floor to ceiling glass windows that would naturally light up the space from one side since the room was going to be occupied mostly during daylight hours. However in order to reduce contrast and uneven lighting, we provided an electric illuminance of 700-1000 Lux which is prescribed by code for any task performance of medium contrast or small size. This was achieved using picking fixtures of two kinds and performing Calczone analyses to guide the number of fixtures required for the proposed illuminance. Next the models of the fixtures were placed in a 3DS-Max model and light meter analyses were performed individually and in combination with the other fixture. The final calculations show that the required illuminance levels were achieved using this combination.
