The design of the Artist’s Residence revolved around the ideas of framing stunning views, ambulatory contemplation and drawing ideas from the ancient context of the site. The front garden almost hides the low heighted residence in vegetation, but the meandering path leads you to a faux statue of Discobolus which directs you to the modest entrance entering an indoor outdoor covered space with a serene pool. This space directly faces the ruins of Hadrian’s villa, thus reminding the artist of his immediate context. The free studio space cantilevers 35 feet over the drastic slope and provides a panoramic view of the mountains (photo). The living spaces are relatively modest and intimate. A linear water canal draws one from the courtyard towards a beautiful moment acting as a full stop to the long walk, a meditative pool dramatized by the sound of falling water from the canal
