HISTORIC BUILDING DOCUMENTATION

PANTHEON STUDY, PENCIL ON VELUM, 24X366

The study of the Pantheon of Rome was my first drawing project as an architecture student. Apart from studying the fascinating history of the building, it was interesting to learn about its special portico comprising of massive granite corinthian columns. Everything about this iconic building, including its coffered concrete dome and the large central oculus, has inspired some of the most important buildings and architects of the world. In conclusion of the research, the drawing combines the elegant sections and floor plans of the building.

THE CUSTOM'S HOUSE, KEY WEST, AUTOCAD ON MYLAR, 24X36

The Custom’s House in Key West is a building of great historic, social and cultural significance and stands out among the wooden vernacular buildings of the place, in being a massive, masonry construction with a bright terracotta color. This set of drawings was part of a documentation project which studied, and analysed the building through different drawing styles including exploded axonometric drawings. Another drawing represented the porch’s brick arches and eave details that also framed the building’s orthogonal measured drawings.

MONUMENT TO THE RESISTANCE BY ALDO ROSSI, PENCIL ON VELUM, 24X36

“The monument in Cuneo was to stand at the foot of the Boves mountains in Cuneo where heroic battles were fought during the war. It consists of reinforced concrete cuboid with 12m walls and an interior viewing platform, from which a long slit cut in the wall allows observation onto the field of battle.” This was a study of his design and its representation using hand drawn axonometric, isometric and orthogonal drawings.

TEMPIETTO, SAN ROCCO STYLE

Tempietto Di San Pietro in Montorio, or Tempietto of Bramante is a Renaissance building based on a central plan constructed to celebrate the martyrdom of Saint Peter on the Gianicolo. Since Saint Peter’s crucifixion was carried out in an upside down position, the drawing has been turned upside down. It was carried out in the black and white style of San Rocco Magazine, which was the collectively chosen theme of representation in the class.

AUSTRIAN POSTAL SAVINGS BANK FACADE, PHOTOSHOP

The Austrian Postal Savings Bank in Vienna was designed by Architect Otto Wagner. The simple facade relates back to classicism although using modern materials including marble plates, iron bolts with aluminum caps. This simplistic design was also highly functional and low maintenance. The study of the facade was cropped to the main entrance and the two following floors entirely achieved using photoshop and illustrator.
